Black-out date requests

You can use this form to request black-out dates – days on which you would prefer NOT to have a test. I’ll do my best to schedule around as many of these as I can.

Test Information

Information about each test will be posted here around the time of the test.

Test 1

  • Date: 9.28.2021

  • Test 1 Info Sheet

  • Grading Scale

    letter range
    A 70 - 80
    B 60 - 70
    C 50 - 60
  • Grading notes

    • Behind the scenes, I convert to a 4.0 scale. So 70 \(\to\) 3.5, 60 \(\to\) 2.5, etc.
    • If your final exam score is better than your worst test, I will replace it with your final exam score (converted to a 4.0 scale). So if you are not happy with the grade on this test, all you need to do is do better on the other two tests and the final and this score won’t be involved in your final grade.
    • I also drop your worst couple WW and PS assignments. That gives everyone a chance to be busy, sick, forgetful, etc. a couple times.

Test 2

  • Date: 11.2.2021

  • Test 2 Info Sheet

  • Grading Scale

    • Note: Gradescope will think there are 120 points possible because it doesn’t treat the 4 extra credit points special. Of course, that doesn’t really matter, since all you need to know is how to take your raw score (in class + take home) into an approximate letter:
    letter range
    A 101 - 116
    B 88 - 101
    C 73 - 88

Test 3

  • Date: 12.2.2021

  • Test 3 Info Sheet

  • See Moodle for comments on some of the problems from Test 3.

    letter range
    A 70 - 90
    B 59 - 70
    C 48 - 59

Final Exam

  • Date: Friday, December 10 @ 1:30pm

  • Use your review sheets from the previous tests. The only two new topics are propagation of uncertainty and bootstrap/resampling for confidence intervals.
